Feng Shui for bedroom: teddy bear on the bed

Your Bedroom Affects Your Sleep And Health

Your Bedroom Affects Your Sleep And A Good Sleep Is Crucial To Your Health.

From the Feng Shui perspective, the bedroom is considered the most important room in the house. Why? Because that’s where we sleep and a good sleep is crucial to good health. We can’t live very long if we don’t sleep.

The places where we spend the most time affect us the most and we spend a third of our lives sleeping in our bedroom. While we’re busy sleeping, our bedroom is having a big impact on our health and longevity.

According to the National Library of Medicine, it’s estimated that 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from a sleep disorder or poor sleep. To the degree that it impacts their daily functioning and has adverse effects on their health and longevity. This is what they said, “The cumulative long-term effects of sleep deprivation and sleep disorders have been associated with a wide range of deleterious health consequences including an increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack, and stroke.”

There are a lot of factors that contribute to poor sleep and sleep disorders but addressing the room where we sleep should be at the top of the list of treatment and prevention.

Clutter In The Bedroom

Clutter in the bedroom is particularly detrimental to our health. The occasional mess is not such a big deal. But if things pile up and never get dealt with, if you can’t move freely in your space, or the room triggers overwhelm, that’s a problem.

“People who sleep in cluttered rooms are more likely to have sleep problems, including difficulty falling asleep and being disturbed during the night.”, says Libby Sander, an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at Bond University.

Other Factors Related To The Design of Your Bedroom

Even if you don’t have clutter in your bedroom, there are certain design features that can impact your sleep and health. Feng Shui is an art and science that evaluates spaces for design features that contribute to poor health and poor sleep. It also provides remedies for ‘curing’ these unhealthy design features.

Slanted ceilings and beams have an oppressive force that creates a presence of  pressure down on the people below them. When they are over the bed they are of particular concern. This can have a physical, emotional and mental effect on the people sleeping in the bed. They can contribute to poor sleep, health concerns and a division between the people who sleep there. It is said that a beam over the bed can contribute to illness along the area of the body directly under the beam.

Feng Shui Your Bedroom

Feng Shui pays attention to just about everything in the bedroom, things like: the type of bed, whether it’s up off the floor, and if anything is under the bed. Does the bed have a headboard, if so, what kind? Bed placement is of great concern. Are there ‘poison arrows’ coming from sharp corners pointing at the person in the bed? All of these things are significant in terms of healthy sleep, vital health and intimacy.

Fortunately these things can all be remedied with subtle Feng Shui ‘cures’ without having to remodel the bedroom.

Not everyone is affected in the same way. Some people have a stronger life-force and can withstand the effects while some people are more susceptible because of their constitution. The longer the person is living in the space, the more time there is for these things to have their effect.

What I’ve noticed in my Feng Shui practice is that many people neglect their bedroom because it’s ‘private’. They pay more attention to the ‘public’ rooms that other people see. What I tell them is, ‘But what about what you see? You’re the most important person in the house!’.

Your bedroom is the last place you see before going to bed and the first place you see when you wake up. Those moments have a profound impact on your life. The bedroom is meant to be a place of peaceful repose, precisely to promote a deep sleep, loving intimacy and vibrant health.
