I could make a good case for why each season is the best time of year to declutter. But if I were to vote for a #1 season it would be spring.
Why is spring the best season for decluttering?
Feng Shui, decluttering and home organizing go hand-in-hand with ‘spring cleaning’. The energy of spring brings new life-energy, change and a movement toward action. This burst of life-energy and movement is exactly what’s needed to get the work of decluttering done.
Spring brings beginnings and the feeling of a fresh start.
It’s natural to feel inspired to open up the windows and let the fresh energy of spring inside. That fresh energy will help to clear out the old stagnant energy and make way for the new positive energy. You can take this natural movement a step further and turn your attention to cleaning, decluttering and Feng Shui.
Why declutter in the first place?
When clutter gets out of control it will wreck havoc in your life. It eats up our life-force energy, peace of mind, our time and money. Clutter has a drastic affect on our mood and the quality of our life. What would you rather be doing with your time, energy and money?
If you struggle with clutter and disorganization, it’s the action energy of spring that you need to tap into.
Decluttering is all about taking action and making decisions. What do I want to keep? Where do I put those things? When you delay making a decision about where to put something or if you should let it go it becomes clutter.
4 Simple Action Steps for Decluttering Success
- Make the commitment to declutter. Making a commitment to do something is a crucial step for success.
- Schedule time for it on your calendar. This action holds you accountable and will help you follow through.
- Sort through your belongings one category at a time. This will reduce the overwhelm that comes with decluttering many categories together. It will also give you a clear picture of what you have.
- Decide what you want to keep. This will show you what to let go. When you discover what you love and value you’ll find it easier to let go of the things you don’t.
This may sound simple but it’s the simple things in life that often hold the most meaning. And are sometimes the most difficult to achieve!
One of the benefits of hiring someone else to help you declutter is the accountability it provides. It takes your commitment to get organized to the next level. A scheduled time with someone to walk you through step-by-step holds you accountable. This can make a huge difference if you feel stuck.
